Pictures

We want to thank all of you that have posted these comments on the blog! They have meant a great deal to all of us, especially Grandma. We know many of you would like to attend the funeral, but can't for various reasons. But please accept our love and thanks. We will be publishing a book of remembrance for all the grandkids so that they may always remember their Grandma and the wonderful influence she has been on many people. Paula and David's grandchildren range from 21 to 3 so the younger ones will need a little help filling in the gaps of Grandma's life that they couldn't hear from her at her knee. We would like to include a picture of everyone of you that has sent emails, commented and continue to comment on the blog with stories or feelings you have of Grandma. It will be great to be able to put a face with the name! Please email the pictures to me at jessiehansen89@gmail.com If you have any questions let me know!! Thank you for helping make this book possible!

Memories

Hello everyone!! We have learned in the last few days that preparing for a funeral is a lot of work! If any of you would be comfortable sharing stories and/or thoughts about Grandma, please comment. Grandpa checks the blog several times a day and enjoys reading the comments. If you have any thoughts you would like to share with him this is a great way to do so. Thanks!

Funeral Address

There are a lot of you confused as to which address is correct for the funeral. The newspaper messed up the address and when the obituary was supposed to be run!  6575 S. Eagle Road, Meridian Id, 83642 is the correct place. It is our stake center. I'm sooooooo sorry for the confusion. Please let people know that don't follow the blog that the Eagle Road address is correct, it should be fixed for the Sunday and Monday papers. Thank you all for your lovely words of comfort, delicious food, cards, flowers, and prayers at this hard and trying time in my family's lives! They are ALL greatly appreciated and we all can't thank you enough.

Obituary

Paula T. Hansen, 67, of Meridian died peacefully at her home November 23, 2010.   She was born September 16, 1943 in Provo, UT to Dr. V.V. and Iola Telford.  She graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1961.   She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was married October 18, 1963 to her lifelong sweetheart H. She loved being with her family and took great joy in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren.

During her married life, she resided in San Diego, Boise, Rupert, Emmett, and Meridian, Idaho.  She was a meticulous homemaker.
She was instant friends with those she met and always made others feel like they were the most important person to her.

In 1975 she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. She courageously fought the disease with dignity and without complaint.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, four children Scott (Sheila), Susan (Eric) Spencer, Steve (Rakelle), Shelli (John) Nye, fourteen grandchildren and her brother Virgil Telford of Spanish Fork, UT. Tuesday Update

There is a right way and a wrong way to do things, and mom always does things the right way.    Last night, after receiving a blessing she said that she would do what she was supposed to do.   Shortly thereafter, she told all of us that she loves us and asked dad to put her in her bed.     As the night went on, her breathing became weaker and weaker.   With dad by her side, and her children resting in the front room, she returned to her Father in Heaven as snow softly settled on the ground outside.
Yesterday mom wanted Susan and Shelli to help her stand, and today she is running.   She didn’t want to take any more medicine and now she doesn’t have to.   She didn’t want to have any more pain, and today she pain free.   She wanted everyone to know just how much she loved them.
In the coming weeks, finance experts will be perplexed as they see the stock prices for Kleenex and Hallmark plummet.   Those of us that know mom will understand.
We are very grateful to the many kind friends that brought meals.   Unfortunately we don’t recall what belongs to whom, so please help us identify your items.
We are very grateful for all the kind words and many, many prayers on mom’s behalf.   We will do all we can to strengthen and help dad in this difficult and bittersweet time.    For those that may wonder what you can do to help, keep doing what you’ve been doing.
We are working on funeral plans, so stay tuned to the blog.

Monday Update

Last night was a pretty rough night with no much sleep again. Too bad for both G&G. Nurse Tracy was here this morning, she is Grandma's nurse for a few months ago. Grandma's O2 level was in the 90's so that is good news!! She is continuing to run a fever, so she is doing the hot/cold thing again. She has only had a few bites of food this morning and isn't really interested in eating anything at all. Grandma's voice is very very weak today and since she didn't sleep last night she is very tired. We will continue to try and get her to eat and drink. Please keep on praying for our sweet Grandma/Mom!

Sunday Update

Hello everyone! Well today's update is short. Grandma is about the same as yesterday. She is a million degrees today and just can't break her fevers. The medication isn't helping much today, but grandma still goes on without complaining. She is quite the example to us all. Today is Shelli's birthday so we are having a little celebration. Please no visitors today due to Grandma's condition and it being Shelli's happy day! Thank you for all your prayers and love. Talk to you  tomorrow!

Saturday Update

I just got this update today so sorry for it being later in the day!! Ok, here we go! Grandma didn't sleep last night so naturally, neither did grandpa. Grandma slept yesterday from 4:00-11:30ish. That's why there was no afternoon update! She is up and ready today, but still sounding very tired. Nurse Brooke has changed her pain meds hoping the new pills will work to help with the nerve pain she is having. She will continue to take the liquid morphine to help with the pain and her breathing. Brooke also wants her to start on an antibiotic again, since she has been running a fever and been quite warm. For those of you that visit grandma, you know that she isn't usually warm but continually cold. This is quite the change. Grandma is also supposed to use her nebulizer daily to help with her breathing. Right now both grandma and grandpa are napping!!! They need to after a night of no sleep! I think it would be best today if there were no visitors so that both grandma and grandpa can get some rest. I know lots of you want to see them but today isn't the best day! Please continue calling ahead of time if you are wanting to visit. Lets keep the calls to a minimum today. If you want to tell grandma anything please do it through this blog. It will help grandma get her rest so she will be up for visitors another day! Thank you all for your prayers and love!

Friday Morning Update

Grandma slept till 5 or so this morning. Not great, but it works. She ate some toast and drank about 6 oz of liquid this morning. Grandma is not happy with her medicine today and hasn't had any pain meds since 6 this morning. Her home health nurse from a year or so ago, Christine, is here visiting. Grandma really loves her and seems to be quite happy having her visit. In fact, Christine just got Grandma to take her medicine! THANK YOU CHRISTINE! Grandma has talked with her friend Joyce and was very happy to be able to talk on the phone. Her voice is still weak, but it made her happy to have that chat. She also had a call from her high school friend, Peggy, and was able to have a short conversation with her too. Nurse Brooke should be stopping by soon to check on grandma and see what her vitals are.We hope she will be able to continue to eat and drink today. Thanks as always for the love and prayers for our sweet Grandma/Mom!

Thursday afternoon update

Grandma slept until about 5:30 this morning.  That is a pretty good nights sleep.  She hasn't taken any of the new pain medicine, and she is much better this afternoon as far as being alert and able to talk to Grandpa, Emily, myself and Susan.  Her voice is still very weak, but not so weak that we can't understand her.  She was able to eat several bites of food this morning, and also had a little bit to drink.  Shelli is bringing her a vanilla coke from Sonic, so she will be happy soon!  We hope she will be able to drink a lot of it!  Grandpa is quite pleased with the way she is feeling today...he says she is ordering him around like usual.  LOL  :)  Nurse Brooke is expected to come and check up on her sometime today, we hope that her levels are where they should be.  She hasn't used any oxygen today, and doesn't seem to be in any distress.  We will know more after the nurse has been here.  I will update when I know more.  Keep on sharing and posting, she really does enjoy hearing from you. Thanks again for all the prayers!  More later...

Evening Update

Grandma has had a really rough afternoon. She has a new drug that she didn't like how it made her feel and was over medicated. Hopefully, Nurse Brooke will come and get the a lower dose that will still help with the pain. Grandma was very frustrated by the pill (12 hr morphine) all afternoon. Grandma did start to feel calmer at about 6:30 tonight. She asked for something to eat and was able to swallow a little bit of food. Grandma has also had about 6 oz of water from 3:00 until she went to bed. Please continue to check the blog, visitors are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to call David to check if Paula is feeling well enough for a visit. PLEASE do NOT just stop by! Visitors really wipe her out and if she isn't well to begin with its not good. So please please please call FIRST! She is in bed now and we hope that she will be able to sleep through the night. Thanks for the prayers for our sweet little Mom, Grandma, and friend!

Wednesday Afternoon Update

I'm so sorry to those of you that have been checking the blog and not seeing a morning update. We have had another family emergency today and no one has been at grandma's till this afternoon. All is well now, so no worries. When it rains it pours!!

Ok, grandma has been asleep in her chair for over 2 hours. She hasn't stirred at all since Susan has been there. She ate a small bite of toast and had a small amount of water today. Grandma has some visitors this morning, and has been asleep ever since. She is wearing a pretty dark coral colored sweater today and look very nice as always! That's not much of an update but when I know more I'll get it on here! Thank you to all the lovely cards, flowers, phone calls, and posts on the blog!

Tuesday Afternoon Update

It has been a very quiet afternoon. Both grandma and grandpa took naps, grandma's was shorter than grandpa cuz she takes cat naps! She has had several drinks of coke this afternoon, more so than yesterday or the day before! yay! She ate a very small bite of cheese, and hated it! :) Nurse Brooke came and her BP was good and the oxygen was...84 I believe. Her voice is still very weak, but she is trying really hard to talk to Susan and Shelli. She is just so hard to understand! The messages on the blog are great, she enjoys the stories that are being shared! As you all know grandma loves to tell stories but can't do it well right now. Lets share stories with her now and let her listen and remember all the great memories! Thanks for everything! Keep the pictures and stories coming!!

Tuesday Morning Update

Grandma slept till 6:30 today!!!!! Wahoo! That 3am stuff was NOT good! She is up and in her chair wearing a pretty purple sweater so she looks gorgeous as usual. Grandma has used her O2 already this morning (which is a good thing), her voice is weak, but not gone like it was yesterday. Shelli gave her a few drinks of coke from the syringe and Grandma requested a "tiny corner of toast". She has also had about half a glass of water! (that's big) Grandma has taken her pill and had about the same amount of coke as she did earlier!!! Nurse Brooke is supposed to be coming today but we don't know what time that will be.
If any of you have pictures of Paula you would like to share with her or would like me to add on the blog, email them to me at jessiehansen89@gmail.com
Thanks for all the love, support, prayers, and food! Love to all!

Monday Afternoon

Ok people, this has been a really rough day! Yuck! Grandma has been in bed most of the afternoon. This is very uncommon as she likes to stay up when she can. As you know the nurse came this morning and wasn't impressed with Grandma's oxygen levels. She has had oxygen again this afternoon. Oxygen in kind of an important thing....right? :) Grandma is breathing really shallowly still and Susan hasn't heard any words from her this afternoon. Her voice is EXTREMELY weak and it was hard for me to understand what she was telling me this morning. I don't think she has eaten much, if anything today. She wants to but she just can't swallow. Please keep on praying for grandma and grandpa and sending the messages on here! Susan and Shelli read them to her as soon as they see them! (which is often) Thank you to the ward Relief Society for taking good care of grandpa with wonderful dinners and treats! Hopefully, I'll have better news tomorrow...:(

Monday Update

Grandma slept last night but was up at 3am. She is sitting in her chair and is in a pretty light blue sweater.  Nurse Tracy came today! Grandma LOVES her! I'm pretty sure she is an angel! Nurse Tracy checked grandma's O2 levels again today...and after having O2 this morning her levels were still low! :( She will use oxygen again this morning. Grandma's hands are almost back to her normal size! yay! They hydrated her so much at the hospital I swear it all went to her hands! She is very happy to have them less swollen! Grandma's voice is very very weak today and still can't swallow well. Grandma has taken all her meds again and hopefully we can stay on top of the pain. I was with grandma and grandpa this morning. Susan and Shelli are with them this after. Grandpa is pretty tired today since he was up at 3am with grandma so hopefully he can rest this afternoon. Thank you all for your love and concern. Grandma says she loves you ALL! Keep the comments coming she loves them!

Sunday Morning Update

Grandma slept until 3am...she went to bed really early last night due to how tired she was after all that went on yesterday. Her voice remains weak, and her appetite...non-existent. Grandpa did get her to eat several bites of egg this morning. She has also had several drinks, small ones but it is liquid getting into her frail body! Grandpa has gone to Sacrament Meeting today...only the 3rd time he has left the house this past week. Grandma used the oxygen again this morning and will probably need some again later today. She has had a couple of visitors today and a phone call too. Scott and Susan are trying to get her to rest. She isn't very obedient to her children. Thank you for all the prayers, cards, food, visits, and other well wishes! Grandma does appreciate them, and even though she is very weak and gets tired so easily, she loves to see her friends. Keep on posting...more updates later!!

Saturday Update

Today has been a VERY tiring day for Grandma. We started the day having family pictures taken at G&G's house. Grandma looked beautiful as always in the pictures, despite being in pain. The rest of the family (24 of us) look marginal! Allison Brasher took the pictures and was fabulous! Grandma's voice is very weak again today, when she is tired it gets worse, and she is definitely tired today. She used O2 twice yesterday and has used it once today. She says she can feel a difference after she has used it. She continues to have trouble swallowing and therefore isn't eating. Grandma had 3 bites of potatoes and 2 bites of pie today. We continue to encourage her to drink and the syringe is wonderful as long as we don't push the liquids in too fast. She will choke if we do! Continue posting...we are reading them to her daily! Thank you for all the wonderful words of encouragement and love. We love to read her all of the stories and remembrances that you are sending!!!! Thanks to all!!!

Friday Afternoon Update

Grandma had to use oxygen this afternoon for about 15 minutes. She was quite unhappy about it, but it raised her O2 levels from 85 to 95. Nurse Brooke finally came by and checked up on Grandma. Paula ate 3 TINY bites of cookie and "drank" aka through a HUGE syringe 2oz of coke! She is VERY VERY tired this afternoon! She isn't very obedient when we tell her to sleep, but hopefully she will rest! I'll have another update later tonight! Thank you for all your prayers, love, and friendship to my sweet little grandma!

Grandma's IMPROVED swollen hands...Still Beautiful as always

She was really struggling to smile! :(

Friday Morning Update

Our BEAUTIFUL Mom, Grandma, Aunt, and Friend is up and dressed in a gorgeous dark purple sweater and is sitting in her chair. She has taken her meds but hasn't had any food or much water. The syringe is awesome for getting liquid into her! Grandma's voice still remains to be weak and she is quite hard to understand. The swelling in her fingers is still hanging on, but getting better bit by bit. She has a couple of visitors coming today, the Stake President this morning, and Virgil and 3 of his kids! :) That visit will be good for both Grandma and Grandpa! Nurse Brooke still hasn't come....she hasn't checked grandma's vitals since Tuesday. Hopefully, she will make and appearance today. An Occupational Therapist is coming to give Grandpa some helps on caring for grandma at this time! Keep the messages on here coming...the girls (Susan and Shelli) are sharing them with grandma. They are very much appreciated!

Nov 11, 2010

Thursday Afternoon Update

Nurse Brooke still hasn't come. Grandpa is anxious to know what Grandma's O2 levels are. She had several visitors this afternoon that only stayed a short time! Thank you for that! Grandma is really tired this afternoon, which seems to be the usual these days. Susan gave her 1.5oz of coke this afternoon from her sonic drink. (it may take her several days to finish it) That's about all there is to tell. Grandma is still sweet grandma and is hangin' in there. Please continue to call before visiting! Thanks!!

Thursday Morning Update

Grandma slept OK last night, not as good as the night before. She is up and dressed and in her chair again. Grandma is having a hard time sucking through the straw today. As soon as the visitors leave they, (grandpa,Susan, and Shelli) will try to get liquids in using the syringe! Grandma's voice is a LITTLE stronger today. Key word, little! She hasn't had anything to drink or eat today either. Nurse Brooke still hasn't come over today...hopefully she will soon. The swelling in her fingers is down a tiny bit...her rings are still tight but are moving a little. (that is better than yesterday) Thank you! Thank you! Thank you all for your concern and prayers! We ALL appreciate them greatly!! :) We will have more updates this afternoon!!

Nov 10, 2010

Wednesday Afternoon Update

Grandma ate about 2 1/2 noodles from some soup and a few swallows of coke and was able to suck through the straw. Her hands are really swollen, much more so than yesterday. Her rings are very tight and look painful to Shelli and Susan. Grandpa was given a reclining wheelchair that will be use to help get her dressed. Grandpa was REALLY happy about it. It will make it easier on him for sure. He'd like her to be in it all the time, but Grandma isn't liking the idea. (we aren't surprised!) We think it will be best if there were no more visitors this afternoon. Both Grandma and Grandpa are going to try and get some sleep. Grandma's eyes are already closed. IF you need to talk to them please do it through this blog or texting Shelli or Susan. NO phone calls so they can get some rest! Stay tuned for more!

Wednesday Update

Paula slept all night long! Wahoo! She needed her rest big time. She has been up and in her chair since 8:30 this morning. Dad is figuring out her new medicine and when to give it to her...hopefully he will help her stay on top of the pain. Paula was able to take all of her meds this morning! David says she is doing better today and he seems to be a little more relaxed! Paula still isn't able to talk much but, with David having a happier attitude it helps her too. Please continue to call if you are wanting to visit. Visits need to be about 2 mins and that is even at Paula's request. Thank you all again. We will read all the posts on this page to her so keep 'em comin!

Tuesday Update

Mom is up and sitting in her chair. She had a rough night last night with not much rest, and quite a bit of pain. While visitors are nice, they really wear her out. She cant talk well at all and when she tries to have conversation it wears her out very quickly! 2 minute visits are perfect, but PLEASE call first! Dad is hanging in there as well as can be expected. We are "taking over" and he is a bit bugged by that! ;-) Please send messages to mom via the blog, we will read them to her. Thank you all for your love and concern!

Monday Update

Hello Family and Friends! We are setting up this page for Paula so that you can all stay updated on her current health status. Paula went to the ER on Sunday morning and was diagnosed with double Pneumonia. The doctor and nurses gave her an IV and some antibiotics, but she isn't doing well. They did release her this afternoon and she is at HOME like she wanted to be! If you wish to send a message to Paula please use this page. It is the easiest way for all of us to communicate. We will read your messages to Paula so she knows of your love. Please leave visitors to just the immediate family at this time so she can get her rest. Thank you all for your love and support at this time!

Stay tuned for more updates.
